Planters Wart Removal

There are many different types of warts that can vary in size from a millimetre to more than a centimetre. As well as single warts they can be grouped together and give the appearance of a larger single infection.

Planter warts or plantar warts also commonly referred to as Verrucas medically termed Verruca plantaris appear on the soles of the feet or on the toes. Their appearance can be distressing and they can also be painful. This type of wart does not usually protrude from the skin but instead is forced back into the skin due to the weight of your body when you walk.

If you examine the wart closely you will usually see a black dot in the center, this is the blood supply. The skin around this will usually appear white due to the compacted layers of skin around the area.

If you have warts on your hands of fingers then these are most likely common warts, Verruca vulgaris. These are distinguished by their firm raised nature often described as having a cauliflower texture and appearance. This type of wart can also appear on the elbows and knees.

The plantar wart is caused by the HPV or human papillomavirus when it comes into direct contact with the skin. The skin usually acts as a shield against such infection but if you have even the tiniest scratch or cut the virus can get in and cause the resulting wart.

The most likely place to contract the virus is in public showers or swimming pools, anywhere there are other people who may already have the virus and a warm damp environment for the virus to survive outside the body. You can help prevent catching HPV in the first place by wearing sandals in public areas.

Planters wart removal can be achieved with several different methods. The success rate will depend on the person, whilst one method may work for one it may not work for another. There are over the counter treatments such as Salicylic acid that eats away at the compacted skin of the wart. Cryosurgery or freezing the wart and in extreme cases a surgical excision.

This type of wart can remain for years but they can be unsightly and painful and most people want them removed. Plus there is the risk of spreading it to other friends and family, children are more susceptible. They can spread and cause more warts and develop into clusters known as mosaic warts and so should be treated as soon as possible.
